May 15, 2024 -- Firefly Moments

Hello!! Hope you all are doing well and looking forward to Summer!☀️Things have been good here, the work is hard but at the same time it is so worth it.
Highlights!
• Taught Ian the commandments complete with activities that he hasn't quite grown out of. I've never heard him laugh so hard as when his mom got up to join us in a round of head, shoulders, knees and toes.
• Nothing like eating spaghetti, planning a baptism, and watching the weatherman report incoming tornadoes with the Gerhardts. There might not be enough helmets in their closet, but there's room in the hallway if we need to hunker down😂
• Nathan opened the door, and before we even introduced ourselves, he had given us his whole life story (and it was quite the story). We knew he'd talked with missionaries before but it still took us by surprise haha. Same thing happened with sweet Melva! I absolutely love that part of missionary work.
• We have been doing an activity with member families where they pick a family to Heart Attack, and it has been the cutest thing seeing those pop up all over other doors in the neighborhood!
Quote of the week: "You can't talk about Star Wars - they are holy people!"
Now and again, amidst the craziness of missionary life there have been tiny moments of magic. When just for a second a light flashes on, and you look around wondering if anyone else noticed. We saw a lone firefly the other night and suddenly the world around us was beautiful and magical. Sometimes nothing even sparks it, but the best way I can describe it is as a firefly moment. Those are what really keep me going out here:)
"Behold, he changed their hearts; yea, he awakened them out of a deep sleep, and they awoke unto God. Behold, they were in the midst of darkness; nevertheless, their souls were illuminated by the light of the everlasting word" Alma 5:7
