Sept. 6, 2023 -- Martians & Background Music
Hello from Har-Ber!!
I don't know if it's because we're missionaries or because we're south, but (and I say this with the upmost love) people down here can TALK. ๐ We have had some very interesting experiences knocking doors this week. Two of the most southern guys I've ever met came outside and chatted with us *at us* for at least an hour. Everything from politics to conversations with Taylor Swift to million dollar inventions they didn't patent and everything in between. We just stood out there listening in the burning mid-day heat with cigarette smoke blowing in our faces. Yesterday we met another guy who talked about his belief... in Martians. Its the martians who bring us here, use telepathy to make things happen, and restore our souls in their facilities when we die. He apparently wrote a book on it and told us lots of details - it felt like a straight up Indiana Jones movie๐คฃ We were on his porch for an hour and 10 minutes talking circles without getting a word in edgewise. He was such a cool guy with so many neat experiences and stories, but haha what a day.
I joke about these experiences but it is seriously so cool how open people have been. Of course I've had my fair share of rejection, but then there are those people who invite you into their homes and share their life stories, their trials, and their faith. And those people make it all worth it:)
Sunday night was definitely the climax of the week. Sister Anderson had a dream of us knocking a set of doors and it was definitely inspired. In that small complex, we were sent to four wonderful people including Cam and Melissa. Cam is a single dad who had so many cool insights and loves learning from people who are different from him. We gave him a Book of Mormon and he said he would definitely read it. Melissa invited us into her home and we got to know her and pray together. And to add to the excitement of the miracles that night, we had our own background theme! In the distance there was not only a loud mariachi band, but fireworks to celebrate XD
Highlights!
• We thought our friend Misty had ghosted us, but turns out she jumped into a pool with her phone. All is well๐
• One of the members served us Gumbo!
• We were surprised to meet Brenda at church! She is 37 weeks pregnant and can't work, so the bishop helped her pay for rent. So cool to see where our fast offerings are going. She said she loved church and I'm really excited to teach her more.
• If you want to get someone talking, ask them about their dog. I have been introduced to soo many dogs this week.
• Such a sweet experience, we found Zach who shared that his father had passed away just an hour earlier. He opened the door because he thought God must have sent us <3
Thank you all for the support and have a wonderful week!!

Alma 26:16 Therefore, let us glory, yea, we will glory in the Lord; yea, we will rejoice, for our joy is full; yea, we will praise our God forever. Behold, who can glory too much in the Lord? Yea, who can say too much of his great power, and of his mercy, and of his long-suffering towards the children of men? Behold, I say unto you, I cannot say the smallest part which I feel.
